Tulca 2010: One week in…

November 14, 2010

Here we are!

We are one week into Tulca Festival of Visual Arts 2010, Living on the Edge; People, Place & Possibility curated by Michelle Browne. For a full look at the programme and a full list of this year’s artists visit www.tulca.ie

We are just seven days into this year’s Tulca Festival of Visual Arts but there has been quite a few highlights already. The weather has been a temperamental mistress. She gave us blue sunny skies for the Bbeyond performance last Saturday but then a storm hit us so hard that we were hit for six! We like to call this “Tulca Weather”.

Bbeyond perform “Freedom” at the Spanish Arch, November 6th 2010.

Tulca 2010 was officially launched by Maeve Mulrennan, Chairperson of Tulca and Michelle Browne, Tulca 2010 Curator at the Galway Arts Centre.

On Sunday November 7th, Mexican artist Paola Paz Yee performed Untitled New Work in the toasty Nuns Island Theatre.

On November 9th, 126 hosted an insightful talk with Jennifer Brady on her work for Tulca; The View From Here

Jennifer Brady was joined by writer and curator Chris Fite-Wassilak and talked about her overall practice and recent projects, focusing on the works in this current exhibition and the body of research that they stemmed from.

By the time Wednesday the 10th had rolled around, Aidana Rico Chavez had just arrived from Venezuela in time to host Live @ 8 along with Paola Paz Yee. The audience at Bar 8 were treated to a showcase of Video Art by South American Artists including, Antonio Dominguez, Lorena Mal, Omar Gonzalez, Roberto de la Torre, Erika Ordosgoitti, Ignacio Perez, Renny Jidu and Acciones Breves.

We have had a weekend full of live art performances and performance workshops with lots more events coming up in the next week.

Keep an eye out for updates here!
